چکیده

The hydrodynamics of a dispersed air-water system within a spouted column with a concentric draft tube and a conical base is simulated using CFD based on a two–fluid Euler–Euler (E-E) modeling framework and k-ε two-equation turbulence closures. The interaction between the dispersed gas phase and the continuous liquid phase is characterized by bubble–liquid interphase forces (drag, turbulent dispersion and lift forces). The Ishii-Zuber drag model [1] and Grace adjusted drag model [2], the latter represented by: Grace D p g dense Grace D C C   , , are compared for their capability to match experimental gas holdup. Numerical results of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-ε two-equation turbulence closures models when compared with Pironti experimental data [3] indicated that both drag models, predicted the air hold-up within experimental error. Furthermore, Ishii-Zuber liquid-gas drag model consistently provided better agreement of experimental results; it correctly determines the hold-up within 0.14%. Numerical agreement with adjusted Grace liquid-gas drag model, is exponent dependent   5 . 0 4    p , turning down that the best computed hold-up is within 0.44%. for 5 . 0  p .

DEVELOPMENT OF A PELLET SCALE MODEL FOR TRICKLE BED REACTOR USING CFD TECHNIQUES

In this study, a pellet scale model was developed for trickle bed reactor utilizing CFD techniques. Drag coefficients were calculated numerically at different velocities and bulk porosities in the case of single phase flow through the dry bed. The simulation results were then compared with the prediction of Kozeny-Carman (K-C) equation. The results indicated that drag coefficients calculated fr...

Study of Pressure Drop in the 2D Spouted Bed with Conical Base of Binary Particle Mixtures: Effects of Particle Size and Density

In this study, the pressure drop for the binary mixtures of particles differing in size and density in a pseudo-2D spouted bed was experimentally studied. A binary mixture of solid particles including sand, Gypsum, and polyurethane was used in the experimental setup. Effects of static bed height, cone angle, particles diameter, and a particles weight fraction on the bed pressure drop were e...

Effect of Novel Swirl Distributor Plate on Hydrodynamics of Fluidized Bed Gasifier

The main advantage of a fluidized bed is its capability in excellent gas-fuel mixing. However, due to the lacks of gas radial momentum, its lateral mixing of gas-solid is not adequate. Therefore, this research is focused on fluidized bed hydrodynamics enhancement using the modified gas distributor plate design. For getting an optimum fluidized bed hydrodynamics prediction, three different class...

Drying of calcium carbonate in a batch spouted bed dryer: optimization and kinetics modeling

In the present work, the drying of calcium carbonate in a batch spouted bed dryer with inert particles has been investigated experimentally. The effect of several operating parameters including air temperature (90, 100, and 110 ˚C), air velocity (Ums, 1.2 Ums, and 1.5 Ums), and dry solid mass (5, 10, 20 g) has been studied. The Taguchi method has been applied to determine the optimal parameters...

Validation of Cfd Models for Mono- and Polydisperse Air-water Two-phase Flows in Pipes

Many flow regimes in Nuclear Reactor Safety (NRS) Research are characterized by multiphase flows, where one of the phases is continuous and the other phase consists of gas or vapor of the liquid phase. The validation of the CFD multiphase flow models against detailed experimental data for simplified flow configurations is a basic requirement for the accurate prediction of more complex flows, li...
